Taste testing Korean snacks

Just wanted to say thanks for all the comments everyone!!! I've been pretty busy so I haven't had time to respond but I'm still thinking about you.

Below is a video post that Kenda and I did about taste testing different Korean snacks. I'm too lazy to edit it so I'm putting it up as is. It's pretty long and probably won't be entertaining unless you are my parents or hers. But if you choose to watch one I would suggest watching the fouth one down:

Kenda's adventures in Korea

Kenda's still sleeping so I thought I'd take this opportunity to write a bit about her first day in Korea. I love playing tourist and taking her around the city because it reminds me of all the fascinating things I thought were so cool about Korea when I first got here. It's a refreshing view of a things that have become so commonplace to me.
I picked Kenda up at the airport with some fresh spring flowers and a cool colourful sign that I made her. She didn't sleep at all on the plane ride over, so I knew my Saturday night plans would turn into a quite relaxing night at home.
I had prepared some chicken and potatoes since I wasn't sure what she would be eating on the plane. It's always nice to come home to a home cooked meal so that is what I did!!!

This reads "Welcome to Korea Kenda".....but you probably could have guessed that!

Judy and Sung Hyun share some raw fish and we stick to our bacon cheesy chicken!!

And this is a bag completely for me ;) Whooohoooo to Western goodies!

On the walk to my house Kenda felt a little sick to her stomach. The bus ride to my place was full of stops and starts which I've just become accustomed to. Then the walk through the stinky fish market to my house didn't do her so well either. Thankfully after a shower and some good eats she was feeling better ;)

Wall art

I have been eating Indian food at the same little joint for the past couple of years here in Korea. I eat there so often (twice a month) that the owner and me are on first name basis; we've even exchanged phone numbers. I love the table clothes they have so I asked for one. The owner told me they won't do special orders since everyone will start wanting them. I guess several people have the same request as me. The next time I went in (aka the following week) he said he'd pick me up some when he made the trip back home to Nepal (which is where they are from). So about a month later he came back with two for me to choose from. I took them both since I figure I'll never be able to get my hands on something like this again. I paid for them and gave him a tip since I thought that was a nice gesture. I've hung one on my wall -- as you can imagine it was too big for my table.

1 day

In less then 24 hours I will be meeting my good friend Kenda at the Incheon airport in Korea. She's coming to visit me and I couldn't be any happier at this moment. This will be the first friend who will have come from Canada to visit me. I can't wait to play tourist with her. After living in Korea for three years I have become numb to some of the cool and interesting things that I fell in love with my first year. It will be refreshing to see what she has to say about my now home. AHHHHHHHH........ counting down the hours!!!

See you soon friend! Safe travels

White Day

I completely forgot about White Day and so did Sung Hyun. It's exactly one month after Valentine's Day. Typically Korean men are suposed to buy candy for their sweet hearts.

White Day this year was on a Saturday and after a busy day of Hanbok shopping (see last post) I suggested to Sung Hyun that he could take me to Outback for a nice dinner. But unfortunately Sung Hyun's sisters husbands father passed away so there was family business to attend to. Even though I was sick (I've got bronchitis, yuck!) and wanted nothing more then to just have nice dinner and a relaxing evening, I knew that I had to put my needs on the back burner. Because at times like these family is more important. So we packed our over night bags, drove 3 hours and finally arrived at his sisters house after 10 p.m.

And when I got there I was really shocked to see this hanging on the wall:

Hanbok Shopping

Wedding planning is moving along quite quickly. Can you believe it's only 6 weeks away? Well we can't!!! Things are going well, minus the wedding invitation incident. But I'll be sure to fix that.

This past Saturday Judy, my Korean friend, came along to help me pick out my hanbok. Thanks Judy. Since I'm having a traditional Korean wedding, I don't have to worry about squishing into a white dress. hehe. I could be pregnant and no one would know. (I'm not, in case you were wondering)

Goodbye Boracay!!!

And hello Korea!!!

Living in a postcard -- Day 8 in Boracay

This was our last full day in Boracay. Were were sad to leave such a beautiful place, but anxious to get back to Korea too. I'll leave you with some more wonderful photos of the water and a little tasty surprise at the end. Enjoy!
And then we decided to go out with a bang........
.......and eat our little tasty Filipino snack. This ain't no ordinary boiled egg.
WARNING: This is nasty. Annie did a good job here eating the whole thing but I could only stomach a few bites. She was a lot braver than me. This is a Filipino delicacy called Ballot. It's a partially hatched duckling. It's NASTY!!!! Just watch......

Wedding invitations!!!

We've found a cool place online to get our wedding invitations printed. A special thanks to Danielle who hocked us up. But we're run into a small problem. The love poem printed on the front of the card doesn't exactly go over well with me. Let's take a look shall we:

A love so beautiful
In everyway
A love so beautiful
We let slip away
We were too young to understand
To ever know that lovers drift apart
And that's the way love goes

So yah, that's the poem on the front page of our wedding invitations. Thank goodness we didn't get any printed yet!!! What do ya think?

Living in a postcard -- Day 6 in Boracay

This morning came too soon. We had a early morning wake up call so we could watch the sunrise while horseback riding!!!! Riding a horse in the dark is scary. Riding a horse, period, is scary.
My hat looks exceptionally large
After the hour ride I was pretty sore. I was probably so tense squeezing my thighs together so I wouldn't fall off.
Look dad, they have a Rotary Club here, why don't you come to one of their meetings?
School girls off to study
Young boys off to work.
And we were ready to hit the sack for a few more hours of rest
Then later in the afternoon we did a lot of walking
Watched another beautiful sunset
Then went to the hospital to get Annie some medicine for her sore throat
